Breeding birds are selected four times and strictly controlled in order to improve the hatching rate.
For the first time, select chicks with large individuals, no variegated fluff, and lively reserve seeds; ducks need to be raised to 8 to 10 weeks old; geese are selected after brooding, selecting well-developed, with no variegated feathers geese.
For the second time, select chickens from 35 days to 45 days of age, and select reserved seeds with a well-developed crest, bright red color, and larger body weight (especially the crest size of egg chickens has a significant positive correlation with the testis size); ducks' second selection is carried out at the age of 6 months to 7 months. The head is larger, the neck is thick, the eyes are big and bright, the beak is wide and uniform, the body is long and broad, the feathers are tight and shiny, healthy and strong, and the secondary sexual characteristics are obvious. (Generally, ducks can be selected twice); geese should be selected at the age of 70 to 80 days, and individuals with small size, poor development, and disabled legs should be eliminated.
The third selection of chickens is carried out one week before the transfer, and the roosters with a large body, well-developed, plump feathers, and bright red crested beard are selected; the geese are generally selected for the third time before the start of production, that is, at the age of 150 to 180 days.
The fourth time selection: artificially inseminated males should undergo semen collection training from 27 weeks to 28 weeks of age, and select males with high semen collection volume and good semen quality.
